Thomas Scott
Thomas Scott was born on January 1, 1842 in Clandeboye, Ireland. He was an adventurer who arrived in Manitoba at the Red River Settlement in the summer of 1869. Thomas began working as a laborer on the "Dawson Road" project to help build a new wagon road connecting Red River to Lake Superior. During the Red River Rebellion, Thomas Scott went against Louis Riel and the Métis people to fight for control of the Red River settlement. Thomas was later sent to jail and executed by Riel. His death caused a great controversy in Canada as some people believed he was treated unfairly. Thomas Scott's death was a major event in Manitoba history that lead to the execution of Louis Riel.
